Ride with a drunk driver, buy a ticket to your own funeral…

From Lex18.com
Police say a man was driving drunk when he ran a red light and struck another car killing his passenger Saturday in Georgetown.

On Tuesday the Scott County man faced a judge and it appears Johnny Ray Allen was in very familiar territory.

Johnny Ray Allen has an extensive criminal record filled with prior DUIs and drug charges. Phillip Burgess’ mother wants to know why Allen was even out of jail in the first place.

The 32-year-old, now charged with DUI and 2nd degree manslaughter in the death of Phillip Burgess was in the court room less than two months ago charged with manufacturing meth.

Scott District Judge Vanessa Dickson lowered his bond to $1,000 from $10,000 despite the fact Allen was already out on bond for another August 2012 charge of making meth.

“He might be alive today had he been put where he should have been,” Tammy said.

Phillip’s mother, Tammy, is surprised Allen was free on bond, but even more shocked when she was told her this is actually the fourth time allen has faced a DUI charge.

In one case Allen “ran his vehicle into the kitchen of a ….MORE

Lincoln, Neb. —   The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says inmates selected to drive vans for the prison’s work release programs first go through a review of their driving and chemical abuse records.

The department released some details of the policy on Thursday, following a fatal crash. Authorities say 35-year-old inmate driver
Jeremy Dobbe hit a minivan, killing its driver, 47-year-old Joyce Meeks. Investigators believe that Meeks tried to swerve out of the way, but was t-boned.

A news release from the department Thursday says selection as an inmate van driver includes a review of the inmate’s driving record, with particular attention to recent history. The department says drivers also undergo weekly urine testing to check for chemical abuse.

Dobbe is serving 5 to 7 years for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, Terroristic Threats, and Criminal Mischief from Colfax and Butler counties.  His tentative release is scheduled for October 14, 2014.

Online court records show Dobbe was convicted of DUI in 1999 in Colfax County.

In 2000, Dobbe had a Reckless Driving Conviction. He plead down from DUI in Stanton County.

In 2003, he received a DUI conviction in Platte County; a charge of Exhibition Driving was dropped.

In 2004, Dobbe was charged with Driving Under Suspension Stemming from the 2003 DUI in Platte county.

In 2010 he was also busted for driving without insurance or registration.

HELENA – Levi Roope, 28, was arrested Friday night on charges of a felony DUI and two felony charges of tampering with physical evidence.

After a bloody altercation with officers, as many as 14 charges could be filed against him, according to Helena Police Department Sgt. Jayson Zander.

Police officers responded to a 6:25 p.m. call Friday from the corner of Custer and Montana avenues, where a caller reported that a male had almost hit a vehicle at the Cenex gas station and was yelling profanities.

When he left the station, he drove through the Jade Garden parking lot at 3128 N. Montana Ave., reportedly striking two vehicles. A witness followed the driver to the vicinity of Insulator Avenue, where officers caught up with Roope, Zander said.

Roope appeared impaired and officers gave him a field sobriety test and then arrested him for driving under the influence, said Zander.

Roope refused to give a blood sample, so officers applied for and received a search warrant and transported him to St. Peter’s Hospital for the blood test. Roope, whose handcuffs were removed for the blood draw, said Zander, became combative and was able to grab a …MORE
